Post 21- October 10

I spent a fair amount of time each on my blocks in the past few days . .After I replace a flower in row 4 -10 , I just have to sew the units together . Then after that there will be a few hexagons to place in various spots along the left and right borders. It feels to good to be this far along .

Post 20 - October 4

I haven't posted in a while but have still been working on my quilt. I am working on Row 9 .I had forgotten how much time it takes to add the paper and baste each individual hexagon before I can assemble them into rows. Each flower is made up of 7 hexagons , and I had to make 12 new ones plus some partial ones. Then of course are all the off white hexagons , over a 100 of those I think. Anyhow I may be a while, but I am working a bit most everyday on it .

post 19

I have been working on my quilt this week as much as I can . I now have row 3 sewed to row 4 . I have to make 2 partial blocks and one full block before I can start sewing row 5 to row 6 . The same for rows 7 and 8, and then I will have to assemble some more blocks for the 9th and final row .

Post 17

Although I have not posted in awhile I have been working on my quilts. I finally finished the baby quilt that I was working on .I was really pleased that it turned out so well . I am making progress on my Grandmothers Flower Garden. I had 8 rows all sewn together and then decided to make some changes . I am adding a block to each row so the quilt will have 9 rows across and 10 down. I have added the extra block to 4 of the rows so far. I also have to have a partial block to each row, alternating from the bottom to the top. You will understand this more clearly in a picture. So far I just have 2 complete rows sewn to each other. I have started sewing together the 3rd and 4th rows.

Post 14 - August 13

When I made my last post I didn't expect that I wouldn't post anything for almost a whole month. However, I have made a few changes in my life . As a result I spend less time at my computer, and more time outside . Biking or walking . Usually when I walk I walk the dog, and sometimes I walk on the beach, some time and walk a bit and stop to visit . Whatever variation , I am finding it much healthier.
I now have 37 flowers done. 4 complete rows, and a start on the 5 row .(almost time for another picture)
I have also been working on a couple of other projects . On Thursday of last week , I found a top that I had started a few years ago, I added one row to it . On Friday my friend Joyce and I tied that quilt.Another friend is going to bind it for me. I plan to give it to my niece for a birthday present .
Since Saturday I have been sorting through fabrics for a baby quilt for an Internet friend. I spent 3-4 hours in coming up with a design for the quilt using my EQ 6 (Electric Quilt version 6) .EQ is a software for designing quilts. I am learning to use it as I go along so it took me much longer than it should have to design it .
As if today I have 8 or 9 - 4 patch blocks completed for the quilt. They are smaller than my original design , so I am not sure how many blocks I need altogether. Either 30 or 35 . My time is up for today .

Post 12

I spent about two hours working on my quilt on Monday evening . My computer was in the shop so I had to have something to do . I was able to sew en0ugh white hexagons together to complete 2 rows of flowers. That is 18 flowers . I have not worked on my project for the last 2-3 days , so I hope to do so, sometime on Friday . I don't have an new pictures at the present time.

Post 11

I have decided to change the titles of my posts to Post plus number .It makes more sense than to say Day plus number , since I am not posting my progress every day that I work on it . As you can a few days again have passed since I last posted . I have a picture to show my progress. I have 3 rows finished , a total of 27 blocks. Soon I am going to think about sewing these rows together , and filling in the empty spaces. I have not done it so far because I am still trying to figure out how I want to do it . Before my next post I am going to try to take some time and use my "Electric Quilt " design software and arrange the hexagons in the pattern that I want the finished project to look like. ( I am stumbling with words here as I am not sure I am using the proper terminology)

Day 10

Oh my , well it has been awhile since I have been by to record my progress. Fortunately, I have not been neglecting to work on my quilt . Last picture showed that I had had one row done and 3 blocks on the next row. Todays picture will show you that I have 2 complete rows done, and 3 more blocks towards the 3rd row. What the picture won't show is that I have been piecing some of the hexagons together in preparation for finishing some more of the blocks . I started working on this project on June 8- and have 21 one blocks completed , so in 18 days I have 21 blocks done and sewed together .So I think I can be satisfied with my progress. I won't get the top done in 30 days like I thought I might, but this is a more realistic pace I think.

Day 9 I think

Today I was in in a lot of pain , but it was good for my quilt piecing even if it did mean I had to stay in bed. I got 3 more flowers sewed together . And have pieced some hexagons together to attach to the next couple of flowers. It is late tonight so I will skip the picture and try to get one sometime on Thursday .

Day 8 - Progress Is So Slow

In this picture we 3 of the flowers are sewn together for row two .

In this picture you can see how the 2nd row of flowers fits in with the first row, I have not joined the two rows yet . Will do that after I finish all the blocks in row 2 .

I just seem to keep getting further behind . Not just here but in my other hobbies too . Gather , MyLot , my Paid to Click and Paidtoread Programs. I just getting going and my hip starts paining . Or else it is in the wee hours of the morning and I realize I need to go to bed. Making it a priority to work on piecing this quilt seams to mean that I work on it before I sign on the Net Each day . Once I am on there the day and I chatting with this person and that , and the hours fly by. Complaining aside I did manage to do a bit of work in the last couple of days. I even have pictures to show for it. . So although I am behind in my goal somewhat I am happy to see some progress.
Did I tell you I bought a new quilting design software program called " Electric Quilt" . It looks exciting . I just need to find time to play with it . Soon I hope to have a virtual quilt of what my finished layout of this will look like.
Any how good night and thank you for reading . Please leave a comment and please tell a friend about my blog .

Day 7

I have been trying to spend time everyday on piecing my quilt together. However, I have been in a lot of pain and life around here has gotten a little crazy. I worked on my quilt Thursday , but missed Friday and today . Tomorrow I should be ready to post a picture of the first completed row.

Day 6

Here I am once again .Am slowing down already. I had to spend a lot of time in Gather today .They are having an image contest which goes until the end of June and if you can get 10 points for every image to post. So I was out taking pictures, and digging in my files . I want to make sure to get as many points as I can . Then I spent a big of time on Facebook today. I met my nephew for the first time on there. That is a long story that I will have to write about sometime.
Anyhow are are supposed to be talking about my quilt.Today I sat down and sewed the white hexagons on one block.I had plans to do more, but I fell asleep. I think I got my minimum of a 1/2 in . Maybe tomorrow I can spend some extra time on the quilt .I want to be able to see some progress. No picture for today .

Day 5

I had to go to the mainland today ( Tuesday ) so I didn't get to work on my Quilt blocks as much as I wanted to . I did manage to sew blocks 5 and 6 together and sewed them to blocks 1- 4 . I also got the white hexagons ready for blocks 7 and 8 . I measured the completed blocks today and I may have to make my quilt wider than that . I want it to fit a double bed . I am arranging the quilt someone differently than the pattern in the book calls for. So I am kind of winging it as far as measurements go . I have bought some new quilt design software . When it comes I want to scan my blocks and it will show me my quilt as a virtual quilt, and it will calculate my measurements for me .Atleast I think it will. Stay tunned for more to come .

Day 4

I got to spend more time on my quilt blocks today that I planned on. My sciatic nerve caused my hip to pain so badly that I was forced to stay in bed much of the day . However I didn't make quite as much progress as I wanted to. I found myself having to take out stitching twice. That is just so annoying . Today I time how long it takes to stitch a length of 3.5 centimeters. It took around 1 minute. So you you would think doing that 9 times would be about nine minutes right ? Wrong , for some reason it takes longer, so I guess I take longer to do some parts than I do the others. Then of course there is threading the needle. I think times I spend half the time threading the needle. I have a needle threader , but I also have progress lenses , with 3 different areas in my lens. That makes it hard to see the eye of the needle . I found my fingers get pretty stiff as well after awhile even my shoulders hurt. I think it because I tend to hold my needle much too tightly. I even clench my teeth . This kind of funny because this is supposed to be a relaxing hobby.
Well , it is the end of the day here , and I have an early morning .I have a doctor's appointment and have to catch the 7:30am ferry to the mainland .

Day 3

I need to try to get to this earlier in the day . I did work on my blocks before I got on the computer today. I finished one block that I started yesterday , and I sewed the white hexagons on to one more more. I measured on side of a hexagon and it is only 3 1/2 centimeters long . So 9 edges would be 31.5 centimeters . It doesn't seem that it should take me so long to do . However the stitches have to be very tiny so that they will be strong enough to hold together. I don't have a picture for today, tomorrow I will sew my completed blocks together and then post a picture.

Day 2

It is 6:05 Atlantic Standard Time (AST) I just sewed 9 white hexagons together. They have to sewn in a certain order so they the will fit around the flower.Doing this is almost like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. You have to do it just right or it won't fit. I left space in the flower so it can be joined to the block above it. It really is a time consuming, but rewarding process. Some of my white hexagons are already sewn together from when I worked on this in 2005.Most of them are only sewn together in two. but even that saves me time now. I am thinking trying to assemble two blocks a day ( one block is equal to one flower with the proper number of hexagons sewn on it) I guess I will play it by ear, and see how my time and energy goes. I spent a bit more than an hour on it today, and I had to stop because I found myself falling asleep . I will get a picture added to this before I go to bed this tonight As you can see by the picture I have added I got a good start on a second block this evening.

Grandmothers Flower Garden

I am working on a quilt called "Grand Mothers Flower garden. I actually started it in 2005.I worked on it from Janaury to April of that year. The template is a hexagon. There are 7 hexagons in each flower. I made 80 flowers,( 8accross and 10 downd) which is big enough for a double bed. Each flower is seperated by a row of white hexagons . I forget how many I had to make of those, a lot that is for sure. I will have to remember to find my original design and count them .
This past week I dug out the quilt again and decided that this would be my priority project . I have a friend that is 94, she is not well right now. She may not have much time left on this earth. I would love for her to be able to see the finished project . How long she lives depends on the Lord. She may live for years yet, but if I don't work on the quilt she won't see it . So I am committed to working on it each day . To sew the outside ring on two flowers takes an hour or so a day. I need to time it again to find out the exact time. I do want to spend a minimum of a half hour a day , I don't think I will get more than 2 hours a day in . I have a picture of the first two blocks done and I will post that here . So I hope you will come by often to see my progress .
